Moonlight spills across the waves like whitened blood of ghosts
And silver sand beach, hugged by waves, is lost along the coast.
Silent dreams the foam has crushed and tide has washed away
The ocean spanning half the world; a deep, reflective stage.
The silky whisper in the breeze of wings too large to be
Creatures glide like graceful clouds above the midnight sea.
The ebon bodies part the air in an ethereal trance
Here it is the dragons come; the dragons come to dance.

Wave spray leaps into the air, white phosphorus its gift
Offered to the giant beasts who ride the currents' lift.
Smooth scales gleam like liquid light on muscles sleek, uncurled
Starlight shines in ancient eyes - the wisdom of the world.
The nightdrakes drift across the moon, like shards of fallen sky
Worshipping the gods and stars upon the endless high.
The lithe reptillians circle like some eerie dark romance
Here it is the dragons come; the dragons come to dance.

Night's exquisite children glide on silent seranade
The ocean's song is all they hear and all they've ever made.
Twisting, weaving, soaring in the soft and lonely light
'Till just the breeze and memories left fading in the night.
The mystic, sunless creatures know the joy of being free
They are everything we want to be and wish we could believe.
Like shadows in the dusky mist, a trick of fate or chance
Here it is the dragons came; the dragons came to dance.

Wow! This is a beautiful poem! I highly suggest that you get it published.

Well here's the dragon so as you put it so nicely...
*dances*
What a beautiful li'l poem. Very lovely, although 'Coz should really be 'Cause, but that is just pedantic ol'me. Imagery and poetry all of dragons!! Suits me!
Lovely work yet again 2

:-) Megan 'Angler' Proverbs replies: "Personally, I hate the 'Coz'. I've been meaning to take it out for ages, just haven't got around to it yet!"

"Night's exquisite children glide on silent :21eranade::" <----- That's serEnade for you. ^_^

Other than that... beautiful... it flows so nicely, just like everything else. I love your descriptions! They just... overflow with imagination and colour.... they..... SPARKLE!! Yes, that's what they do! *thinks wistfully about her own* Mine don't sparkle yet. I'm working on it. *bows down and worships the Master of Sparkling Descriptions* That's your new nickname. Courtesy of Me.

:-) Megan 'Angler' Proverbs replies: "More typos!!! *takes up suspiciously-stained knife again and advances murderously on 'seranade'*

*beams* Thank you so much! Keep working on it and someday yours will sparkle too - just like the stars 2"

Now here's the ultimate question.....

Do stars sparkle? According to my technical older brother, they kind of..... don't.

:-) Megan 'Angler' Proverbs replies: "*rolls eyes* There's always someone, isn't there... Well, if you want to be technical about it; stars are huge blazing balls of gas thousands of light-years away, but that's not the point. The point is... um... the point IS: they look like they sparkle. So there. "

Personally, I don't like semicolons in this kind of poetry. Aah... I think I've got issues with semicolons. I knew I shouldn't have attended the classes where semicolons were covered...

I think it'd be interesting to see what different interpretations and symbols people attach to dragons. Are they just cool magical creatures or is there something more to them? Like here, I'd think you portray dragons as messengers of beauty... but they could as well portray destruction, or power... or nobility... or, let's see. Pretzels? No, really, I will write a story in which dragons represent ineffable sadness and withdrawal. So that then, when in that story someone gets depressed, my heroes can say something like: "He's sad like a dragon." Or... "He's having his dragons again."

Oh look! Relics from an earlier era! (Click here to visit!)s!

12 Megan 'Angler' Proverbs replies: "Semicolons? Are there semicolons in this? *peers at poem* Oh. Yes. Heh. So there are. *sighs* Okaaaaay, I'll go deal with them. *takes out a fishhook and advances on semicolons*

Lol! Depressed dragons... you could be onto something there.

Hahaha! That just goes to show how old this poem is, doesn't it? I really should write some new ones sometime."

Beautiful imagery. I really like how you decribe the dragons over the sea at night in a way that evokes such serenity. The descriptions are just gorgeous. *happy sigh*

Cool poem, i liked the imagery of the dragons dancing over the sea, and well, anything with a dragon in it is good for me...This poem has a nice rhythym to it and the metre is superb.

:-) Megan 'Angler' Proverbs replies: "*bows* Thank you! I find dragons beautiful and fascinating creatures and wanted to potray their elegance."

Hi, I came in there through a random search, very nicely written.

:-) Megan 'Angler' Proverbs replies: "Woohoo, random search! Thanks, dude."

*sniff* *dries up a red tear with her sleeve* It’s very beautiful. And the end is very sad. Why can’t the Dragons dance forever and ever?
Farther west than west // Beyond the land // My People are Dancing // On the Other Wind...
(when something make me resite Ursula’s Earthsea, it’s WAY good...)

:-) Megan 'Angler' Proverbs replies: "Ah, but all things must eventually come to an end. Even dragons..."

this poem is truly stuning. I like how the dragons are portrayed as pecefull and beautiful, insted of horid and destructive.
